Surgery report Procedure - Fracture repair - ulna Performed by - AD Surgery time - 75 minutes Pre-medicated with torb IM, anesthestized via isoflurane facemask, then intubated with 3.0 uncuffed ET tube. Placed in sternal recumbency, plucked and scrubbed dorsal aspect of ulna. Incised over the proximal fracture site with #15 blade, bluntly dissected down to bone. Removed small amount of fibrous callus, no bony callus present. Placed IM pin in the proximal fragment and drove normograde across the fracture to seat in the distal fragment. Tried to drive pin up the distal fragment but pin came out the dorsal aspect of the midshaft fracture site where the callus was softest. Struggled to get pin to drive up the distal aspect of the bone as unable to really manipulate or move partially healed bones that were in slight malalignment. Incised over the fracture site, cleaned out old blood and flushed area with saline and with visualization was able to get the pin to properly go up the distal fragment to seat at the carpus. Closed incision sites with 4-0 webcryl in simple continuous patterns. Placed 2 cross pins, one in each fragment, bent cross pins and IM pin around the dorsal aspect of the wing and secured together with epoxy. Covered sutures with TAO, telfa/tegaderm, placed fabric wrap on wing. Patient recovered uneventfully from anesthesia.
